Ok, so I’m looking at e-Bay today during lunch for old VW things. I come across a few items that I think are interesting. Both are very early 40’sor late 30’s VW items. Wow, for $30 I could own a piece of history. BUT… They both have big ol (or little ol’, it doesn’t seem to matter) nazi swasticas on them.

On one hand, this disgusts me, but like a rubbernecker at an accident it makes me even more compelled to place a bid. Why are we attracted to things that offend us? Is it just me? If I did bid on something like this, and win it, would I even show it people? “Hi there, isn’t our apartment fabulous, oh let me show you my Nazi Germany Road Atlas.”

It makes me wonder if there are jews out there that collect this sort of thing. It wouldn’t surprise me in the leat. I saw a special (maybe an old HBO Real Sex) that talked about fetish that many gay men have that involve Nazi uniforms. Weird.

Beetle Update

I just updated the pictures of my Possible Bug page with some pictures of the interior. Not great, but the majority of it can be fixed (or at least made to look better) with some quality seat covers. The other major renovation needed for the interior is the headliner.

Pictures of my Possible Bug.

It’s a 1975 Standard (not a Superbug.) Needs a few things in the interior as well as new floor pan. I think I know someone that can do the pan, but the rest might be up to me.

What do you think? I may actually be trading my CRX. I’ve talked smack about it in the past, but the CRX is actually in pretty good shape for a 12 year old car. The CV joints need fixing and the short in my system kind of sucks – but other than that it’s in good condition. Except for the few times I’ve left the lights on and the battery died, it’s never given me problems ouot of the ordinary. New brakes once, and the window went off track.. but it is a 12 year old car. I think I’m just over the CRX. I like it – it’s still one of my favorite cars – but I don’t feel like putting any money into a car I no longer feel “at one with” if that doesn’t sound too stupid. I almost feel like I was meant to have a bug. That sounds even more stupid, but true. lol

Oh well, it’s 4 am and I need to get some sleep. g’night.
